Smart-Cover: A real time sitting posture monitoring system

Prolonged asymmetrical sitting is common and can exacerbate musculoskeletal back pain spinal deformities. Monitoring posture help maintain correct prevent health problems. Currently assessed by expert clinicians using subjective visual observation. More objective methods involve the use of a gold-standard motion capture system in Laboratories, which expensive not widely available. We develop Smart-Cover, an automatic to provide real time visualization information about posture. A Sitting Pressure Sensor (SPS) built Velostat, conductive fabric foam collect pressure distribution within seat surface. The data are collected from 10 healthy young subjects where each subject sits for 30 min transferred cloud server Internet-of-Things (IoT). rule-based classifier used timely notification users duration level asymmetry. new end-point device application developed show balance. Dial based displays asymmetry, active static sitting, daily summary score.
